Tributes to Nyishi legendary artists

ITANAGAR, Dec 09: A team of Nyishi Idol-2012 Organising Committee and senior artists along with Nyishi Idol-2012 contesting candidates under the banner of Nyishi Arts and Cultural Welfare Society (NA&CWS) today paid tribute to the memorials of legendary artists late Dr Tao Gumshi, late Techi Mecha, late Tassar Teshi and late Tana Selly who contributed immensely for the development of songs and music in the Nyishi society.

Techi Lombu, Chairman Nyishi Idol-2012 organizing committee said, “These legendary artists had played a significant role for the growth of song and music in the society and it is our duty to recognize their contribution in the form of tribute”.

Pre-Christmas celebrated at Saint Claret’s

Ziro, Dec 09: Saint Claret College, Ziro celebrated the pre-Christmas with all solemnity. The celebration saw some brilliant performance from the Claretines in dances, skit and carol singing which took the audience back to the birth of Jesus Christ.

The highlight of the celebration was picking up Christmas friends and exchanging of gifts. Rev. Dr. Paulson Veliyannoor introduced his Christmas friend and began the celebration.

While addressing the gathering Rev. Fr. Benoy CMF, the principal of the college encouraged the students to be tolerant and inculcate the message of peace and love in their daily lives. The first edition of the college news letter was released on the occasion by Rev. Fr. Dency CMF, the vocation promoter, Claretians North East India.

The surprise entry of Santa Claus and cutting of cake added beauty to the celebration. The beautiful crib prepared by the CYC (Claretine Youth for Christ) created a spiritual ambience for the celebration. Apart from the staff and students of the college the alumni and well wishers joined the celebration.

 

Unions mourn death of student leader

ITANAGAR, Dec 09:  The Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU) today expressed deep shock at untimely demise of Tale Dasi, former deputy speaker of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) who was also a law graduate from Daporijo. He succumbed to his injury on Friday morning after he was met with an accident at Narayanpur in Assam in November last.

In a condolence message to bereaved family members of late Dasi, ALSU said the union and entire law students would fondly remember late Dasi as good person and dynamic student leader.

Meanwhile, Students Union of Dera Natung Government College Itanagar also mourned the demise of former AAPSU deputy speaker.

The Union in its condolence message said that late Dasi won many hearts of students by his selfless service to students’ community.

 

MLA assures help to charitable centre

 ITANAGAR, Dec 09: Local MLA Techi Kaso laid the foundation stone of the Pentecostal Christian Fellowship Church Society (PCFCS)’s charitable mission centre at Lekhi village, Naharlagun amidst  huge gathering today.

Kaso lauded the PCFCS for its continued efforts to serve the poor and downtrodden. He also assured to provide all possible help to develop the mission and appreciated the gesture of Sangkoli Cheda who had donated land for the purpose.

President of Jeevan Jyoti Ashram Madhya Pradesh, Bishop Amosh Singh, PCFCS chairman PR Nabam and executive secretary Karoi T Reka also spoke on the occasion.

 

Gadkari arriving on Dec 13

ITANAGAR, Dec 09: BJP National President Nitin Gadkari is arriving Itanagar on December 13 on his maiden two days state visit on December 13 and 14.

During his visit, Gadkari would address public meeting being organized to mark the Shahid Shraddhanjwali Yatra cum rally at Mopin-Solung ground. He is also expected to address the people making them aware about the spiral hike in prices of essential commodities and alleged numerous scams of UPA Govt.

The BJP National President would also address State BJP extended office bearers meeting, besides meetings with the district BJP presidents, party’s frontal wings and State Council Members during his visit.

Tuki assures to include Mariyang in Pasighat-

Yingkiong-Tourist circuit

ITANAGAR, Dec 09: This weekend was hectic but of utmost importance for Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, who along with few of his colleagues, made a whirlwind tour of Upper Siang district from December 8 to 9.

Tuki who returned from Seppa in East Kameng district Saturday morning straight away took off for Mariyang in Upper Subansiri from Naharlagun helipad. He was joined by Finance, PWD and Planning Minister Chowna Mein, Education Minister Bosiram Siram, Industries Minister Tapang Taloh and Development Commissioner Ramesh Negi.

At Mariyang the Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for construction of a Circuit House and a Multipurpose Auditorium. He also visited and interacted with students of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), which is being run in a renovated hostel building of the government school.

To the demands placed by local legislator J K Panggeng, Tuki assured to take up with the concerned department to include Mariyang in the Pasighat-Yingkiong-Tourist circuit. He assured in principle to declare Mariyang as urban town, establish a polytechnic and take up the matter of upgradation of Mariyang circle headquarter in the Cabinet.

Tuki announced Rs 20 lakhs for construction of a Solung Rostrum as well as Rs 2 lakhs for celebration of Solung festival next year. Reaching Yingkiong, the district headquarters, late in the afternoon Tuki inaugurated the Siang River Festival at the General Ground. He was joined by Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering and Parliamentary Secretary Nido Pavitro, who had earlier arrived on an IAF chopper. Also present were former Chief Minister Gegong Apang, Mebo legislator Ralom Borang and local legislator Alo Libang.

In his address, Tuki said Yingkiong, situated on the banks of Siang River, faced a constant threat from the mighty river and needs attention of the government. He assured that he would discuss with concerned authorities to evolve a strategy to bring out a permanent solution to the flood and erosion problems of the township. As requested in a memorandum, he further assured cooperation and support to mitigate the problems of power shortage and lack of a proper water treatment plant.

The Chief Minister later went around the festival ground visiting stalls, model houses of various tribes and exhibitions put on display. He also watched a colourful cultural programme and an apparel show.

Earlier, immediately on arrival he inaugurated the newly constructed Guest House of the Urban Development department, where he and other guests camped for the night.

On Sunday morning, Tuki visited the under-construction Simar Bridge, where BRTF officials informed that the bridge would be completed by March next. He also visited the District Congress Committee office and interacted with party workers before leaving for Tuting.

Tuting, the last ADC administration bordering China, wore a festive look despite its remoteness and distance from the mainland. A new initiative of local legislator Alo Libang and ADC D Tali – Kepangla Pass Festival – was awaiting inauguration by the Chief Minister.

Declaring open the festival, Tuki regretted shortage of time and offered to come back again and join in the festivity in future. He also offered to visit remote circles and villages of the sub-division even if it took hours of trekking.

Tuting sub-division is unique in the sense that tribes like Memba, Khamba, Adi and Idu-Mishmi reside side by side since ages. The Chief Minister lauded the people for maintaining communal harmony and peace in the region despite lack of several facilities.

Responding to a public memorandum, he sought detail proposals for land protection and micro-hydel projects from competent authorities and assured to look into these with utmost sincerity. He also sought detail report from the ADC on the reported damage of crops by natural calamities. He promised to re-introduce science stream in the govt higher secondary school besides granting funds for renovation of the dilapidated school auditorium. To the demand for conversion of Migging as a CD Block, he said the proposal will be taken up in the Cabinet.

 

 

Over dozen shops gutted in Kalaktang inferno

CM announces ex-gratia

ITANAGAR, Dec 09: The beautiful Kalaktang valley, an ADC headquarter got the biggest jolt last evening at around 10.30 pm when a massive fire broke out in the tightly lined up market engulfing more than a dozen shops.

Though no human casualty has been reported  so far the loss of property is estimated to be in crores.  However, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The fire which broke out from an OB type building soon engulfed adjoining buildings and the victims could do nothing but to escape to a safer place leaving behind all their valuables. The inferno started engulfing the shops one after another until it was brought under control when the BRO tankers rushed to the spot.

The locals of Kalaktang in unison came forward to help the remaining shop keepers to remove their valuables.

Meanwhile, Khalaktangpa Employees Welfare Association (KEWA) and TSOPA, (apex body of the Kalaktang Monpa) have expressed shock over the unfortunate incident. While extending their solidarity to the victims, the KEWA and TSOPA assured all possible help to overcome the irreparable loss.

Both the organizations requested the District Administration and the Police Department to place a Fire Brigade immediately at Kalaktang to control similar incidences in the near future.

The Associations also appealed the Government to provide adequate relief to the fire victims.

The two associations while thanking the BRO for their prompt action in dousing the fire, extended gratitude to the Indian Army who had come to Kalaktang for a medical camp, for pressing their men and material to help out the fire victims. They provided medicines, food and logistic support to the victims at circuit house.

Meanwhile, former minister R. K. Khrimey has appealed the state Govt, especially Chief Minister to direct District Administration to give immediate relief assistance  to the affected shopkeepers and also provide adequate compensation, so that they can restart their business.

Expressing solidarity with fire victims, Khrimey  urged upon the local administration to take Fire protection measures so that such unfortunate accidents do not occur in future. Local administration should immediately take up the fire protection measures at Kalaktang township and rehabilitate the affected people, he said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, shocked over the news of more than a dozen shops completely gutted into ashes at Kalaktang market on December 8 last, has announced relief to the tune of Rs 1 lakh each to the affected families from the government’s end.

Extending his solidarity with the victims, the chief minister termed the incident as unfortunate and appealed the people to be more cautious during dry months.

“A spark neglected can burn the whole house”, Tuki said while issuing precautionary strictures.

He directed the district administration to provide immediate relief besides setting up of relief camps equipped with adequate medicines, food and clothing to the victims.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister appreciated the help rendered by the Indian Army and BRO during the incident. On behalf of the people he thanked the personnel who jumped into the rescue mission and later helped the victims with food, medicine and shelter.

 

 

BJP distributes relief items to Ozakho fire victims

ITANAGAR, Dec 09: A Arunachal Pradesh BJP team headed by BJP National Council Member (NCM) Wangman Lowangcha visited the fire ravaged Ozakho village  in Longding on Dec 6  and distributed relief materials such as blankets, buckets, jugs etc to the fire victims. At least 18 houses of Ozakho village were reduced to ashes in a factional clash of NSCN recently. Other team members included District BJP President Teyu Khusia, BJP State Council Members, Mandal presidents   and senior members. The team also interacted with  fire victims and panchayat leaders and took stock of the situation.

Meanwhile the  BJP team appealed to the  state  Govt to provide adequate relief to the fire victims and restore law and order in the district.  There is urgent need to  take effective measures to win the confidence of the people of insurgency infested district of Tirap, Changlang and Longding,  they said adding the Govt should ensure that the development fund reach out to the targeted groups.

 

 

DC expresses displeasure over slow pace of works

ANINI, Dec 09:  Deputy Commissioner Tamune Miso has inspected the road connecting Anini township to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya(JNV) campus recently.  While inspecting the road, the DC expressed his strong displeasure over inferior quality of work and questioned the department concerned in implementation of the project. Miso was accompanied by the Deputy Director (DUDA) and other officers of the district during his visit.

While inspecting JNV school construction site, DC taking serious note  of  the prolonged  delay  in construction of permanent JNV school building, suggested the department to put all their efforts in  completing the project in this working season as every bit of delay in the work are adding more to the woes of  school administration. DC also interacted with the teachers and students of JNV during the visit.

In his series of unannounced inspection of various schools, DC paid surprise visits to many schools of Arzoo, Anelih and Etalin circle recently wherein he found many schools are not properly running, many schools are completely defunct. The DC gave instruction to DDSE for initiation of appropriate measures to revive the defunct schools and streamline other issues.

During his inspection,  the DC also interacted with the members of School Management committee (SMC) and teachers of various schools. Miso urged the teachers to be sincere and punctual in their duties as the negligence and irresponsibility on the part of teachers will spoil a generation forever.

Dwelling on the pivotal role SMC in school administration, the DC appealed and advised all SMCs for regular visits and supervision to ensure proper functioning of schools. Also, showing concern about the health and hygiene, DC urged upon the teachers to ensure regular cleaning of school campus, periodical health check-ups, and safe drinking water to students. Further, DC assured every possible help toward improvement and development of schools in the district.

Also, DC inspected various hydel projects funded under PM’s packages and being implemented by the Department of Hydro Power Development (DHPD). Specific instruction for completion within the targeted period must be strictly adhered to, DC Said.

At Maliney, after inspection of the project for construction of Tourist Lodge funded under BADP 2009-10, the DC questioned the executing agency for unwarranted delay in completion of the project.

The success story of CCCC

SEPPA, Dec 09: The Capital Complex Cricket Club lifting the third edition of the coveted Yaja Waii memorial twenty-twenty cricket championship despite initial setbacks with the defeat from Papu Viking in its first match of the tournament is made of sterner stuff.

CCCC lifted the trophy after humbling Pare Rangers in the nerve-wrecking, tense-filled final on Friday at general ground here. It beautifully defended its target of 105 run set for Pare Rangers while bowling out all the 10 wickets in 19.4 over.    

Braving harsh criticism from the crowd for ‘not- upto-the mark- performance’, CCCC catapulted to Super-8 group after announcing its comeback while chasing 111 target set by Upper Subansiri District Cricket Association in just 14 over.  Sohail Hussain contributed 45 runs from his willow while Biman Saikia took 5 important wickets and chipping-in with 11 runs. Saikia was declared man of the match that day.   

CCCC continued its winning streak by bowling out its entire opponent in 57 runs in 17 over and completing the target in just 10 over. Duyu Teron was adjudged man of the match for taking 4 wickets and conceding only 11 runs in 4 over.

However, the euphoria was short-lived as it lost to formidable Pare Rangers in the second match of Super-8 by 45 runs. The Club confirmed its berth in semi-final with superb performance from Bottom Bagra who knocked 53 runs and took 2 wickets while playing against Lower Subansiri District Cricket Association. Club won the match by 9 runs while restricting LSDCA to 153 runs with loss of 9 wickets.

The Club’s flag rose higher when it won against Papu Vikings by 3 wickets while trailing the target of 108 runs. All-rounder Biman Saikia took 5 wickets, conceded 20 runs and declared man of the match. Many believed that CCCC won final because they were not under any pressure. On the otherhand Pare-Rangers, a Chayantajo based team was under tremendous pressure to win with vocal ground supporting them. The Rangers players succumbed under pressure and could not chase a small target of 106.

Siang Riders Cricket Club, Pasighat was adjudged the fair- play team award. It won a cash amount of Rs 20,000 along with a trophy and certificate while Akhilesh Sahani of Pare Rangers was declared man of the series.

Janun Boro of The Gorkhas scored the highest runs in an inning by knocking 117 against Siang Riders. His runs consisted of 11 sixes and 8 fours from 69 balls. He was closely followed by his team-mate Raj Hussain who scored 100 runs (4x6’s and 11x4’s) from merely 60 balls.

Among the top three batsmen, Raj Hussain, the Gorkhas, scored 344 runs from 229 balls with strike rate of 150.2. Akhilesh Sahani of Pare Rangers scrored 236 from 157 balls ( strike rate 150.3) and Oni Dai of Siang Cricket Club scored 175 runs from 110 balls (strike rate 159.1) Akhilesh Sahani also hit 18 sixes while Raj Hussain hit 46 four.

Top bowlers: Biman Saikia, CCCC, 21 wickets with economic run rate of 7.3. Akhilesh Sahani – 15 wickets with economic run rate 6.3 and Duyu Teron, CCCC, 13 wickets, economic run rate 6.4.  

 

 

English poem recitation adds flavor to APLS literary session

ITANAGAR, Dec 09: The 43rd monthly literary session of Arunachal Pradesh Literary society (APLS) at conference Hall J.N.State Museum brought a unique flavour through conducting an English poem recitation competition among the school students class-VII-X of capital complex. The poem selected for recitation was “Where the mind is without fear” composed by Rabindranath Tagore participated by as many as fifty students while the winners will be awarded on 13th December’12 during the celebration of sixth foundation day of APLS in same venue.

Novonila Purkayaste  and Monalisa Chutia both from Vivekanda Kendriya Vidyalaya, Itanagar and Arunika Koley, Kendriya Vidyalaya No-II, Itanagar secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Consolation prize winners were --  Rindo Pertin, Bunny’s Fantasy World School,  Noimi Gida, D.Sector Government Middle School Itanagar, Memo Mangfi, Green Mount School,  and Aryamaan Das Borah, Guardian Angel School.

Earlier, Y.D. Thongchi,  Akademi Awardee of the state and APLS president encouraged the participants. Thongchi said “Literature is most neglected aspect in the state. Through organizing such competition we would like to augment the conducive literary atmosphere in the state”.

Before beginning the competition, a patriotic Tagore song “Oh Amar Desher Mati” was presented by Aditi Sinha Roy and later a prayer song “Etni Shakti De Hume Vidhata” by Usha Mussang both the teachers of D. Sector Government Middle School which added an extra colour to the literary session. Further, the selected poem for the competition was recited in Adi Language “Aapie Peso Kamang Kalo’ excellently by Bodong Yirang, Director, Elementary Education, Govt.of AP from the Adi book ‘Linggong’ published in 2005 and the poem translated in Adi from Bengali by Kaling Borang, President Siang Literary Forum, Pasighat.

Tokong Pertin, General Secretary and Dr. Pekba Ringu, Asstt. General Secretary delivered welcome speech and vote of thanks while Dr. Tage Tada, Director Research and its Vice President administered the competition session of APLS.

Further APLS sources informed that the interested people may register their names within 12th December to Batem Pertin, Deputy Director of Research to participate in multi lingual poet meet entitled “Rainbow Recitation” to be organised on 13th December, day the 6th Anniversary of APLS. Other highlights of that day would be release of ‘Prayas’- the literary magazine no. II, lecture on Indian English Fiction, Citation of young literary talents and screening of Nyishi film ‘Oyaa’

 

 

 

1st state level Krishi expo cum Kisan Mela

For the first time ever, all the agri-allied departments of Govt  of Arunachal Pradesh have congregated together to celebrate the Farmers’ Festival under the common banner of First state level Krishi Expo cum Kisan Mela at I. G. Park, Itanagar w.e.f. 12th – 14th December 2012. This Farmers’ Festival is going to be graced by the union ministers, other dignitaries including from Indian Council of Agri. Research (ICAR) Institutes.

All the agri-allied deptts and Krishi Vigyan Kendras are gearing up for showcasing their various farming technologies and display of their farm input services.  On the other hand, the farmers of every district have been well informed to participate in the  expo.

Major attractions: (Horticulture Pavilion) -- Flowers show, Orange Festival, Kiwi Festival and technology exbhition. Animal Husbandry Pavilion – Live stock & Poultry bird Show, Dog Show, Feed & Fodder Show and exhibition on technology. Fisheries Pavilion-- Integrated Farming Model show, Echo Hatchery, Angling Festival and Technologies showcasing. Agriculture Pavilion --Agri. Marketing, Farm tools & Farm machineries display and Technologies showcasing and many others.

The main motto of this Krishi Expo cum Kisan Mela celebration is to provide a common platform of knowledge sharing between the line deptts and the farmers and also farmers to farmers interaction in agri-allied sector development.

It is observed that no any other producer faces problems more than a farmer does. The farmers in the state are facing numerous challenges from production level (inadequate access to farm technologies, climatic uncertainties and resource degradation etc) to services level (weak service delivery support, lacks inputs and credit supports) and then to marketing level challenges. In the present context, our farmers are left in the state of despair and helplessness because of our lack of coordinated or unplanned approaches or even concrete follow up programmes in agri-allied sectors. Though our farmers practice the “Mixed type of farming” our approach is of ‘separate entity’ without any coordinated or collaborative initiative among our different line deptts thereby our farmers are left in the state of confusion – ‘which type of farming is to be opted and how to start up ……. ? so on and so forth.

Therefore, we need to converge our plan and programmes and carry forward farmer centric approaches and opt for more coordinated efforts for the farmers’ cause. Hence, this initiative of Farmers’ Festival under the banner of state Level Krishi expo cum Kisan Mela 2012 is to bring all the stakeholders for the cause of farm sector under a single umbrella for better convergence and better dissemination of knowledge to farmers for augmenting their crop productivity.

The valedictory function of this year’s Krishi Expo cum Kisan Mela is going to be graced by

Dr. Charan Das Mahant, Union Minister of State for Agriculture  and  food processing industries  would grace the valedictory function as the chief guest on 14th Dec 2012.

To avoid the traffic congestion at the Krishi Expo site (I G Park Itanagar), the organizing committee request all the visitors to Kisan Mela cum Krishi Expo ground to enter from the Northern gate (Near Kingcup School) and exit from Eastern gate (Forest gate).
